The Hail Caesar Gastrophetes set from Warlord Games represents one of the earliest mechanical projectile weapons used in ancient warfare. Developed by Greek engineers during the 5th century BC, the gastrophetes, meaning belly shooter, combined the power of a composite bow with a mechanical draw system to fire heavy bolts capable of piercing armoured targets.

The weapon was operated by bracing the stock against the operator’s body and using body weight to draw the powerful bow mechanism. This system allowed soldiers to generate far greater tension than a traditional bow, resulting in impressive penetrating power on the battlefield. The gastrophetes would later inspire the development of more advanced artillery such as the oxybeles bolt thrower and the famous ballista.

This blister pack includes three detailed 28mm scale metal miniatures representing gastrophetes operators suitable for use in Hail Caesar historical tabletop battles. These figures make an excellent addition to Macedonian or Hellenistic Greek armies and provide a distinctive early artillery element for ancient tabletop wargaming.

The miniatures were sculpted by Toma Axelsson. Studio miniatures shown painted by Andres Amian demonstrate the detail and character hobbyists can achieve when painting the models.

Models are supplied unassembled and unpainted.

Players searching for Warlord Games Hail Caesar gastrophetes miniatures, 28mm Greek belly shooter artillery crews, or early ancient bolt firing weapons for Macedonian and Hellenistic armies will find this set ideal for historical tabletop wargaming.
