ICM Do 217K-2 with Fritz-X Gliding Bombs 1:48 Scale WWII German Bomber Model Kit
The ICM Do 217K-2 with Gliding Bombs Fritz-X is a 1:48 scale plastic model kit representing the specialised German bomber developed to deploy the Ruhrstahl SD 1400 X guided bomb during the Second World War. The Do 217K-2 was an adaptation of the Do 217K-1, featuring a significantly extended wingspan to support the heavy combat load of the Fritz-X bomb, which weighed 1,570 kg.
To maintain operational range, an additional 1,160-litre fuel tank was installed in the forward bomb bay, while special bomb racks were mounted beneath the wings between the engines and fuselage. The Fritz-X itself was an armour-piercing radio-guided glide bomb designed for attacks against heavily armoured naval targets, deployed from altitudes of at least 4 km. Its operational use included the sinking of the Italian battleship Roma in September 1943.
This kit includes two Fritz-X bombs with mounting racks, accurately reproducing the aircraft’s extended wingspan and overall geometry. Decals are provided for three historical marking options from III./KG100 based at Marseilles-Istres in 1943. Supplied unpainted and requiring assembly, this model is suited to WWII aviation modellers and historically focused collections.
