Enhance your Catan experience with the Cities and Knights Expansion 6th Edition, designed for 3-4 players aged 12 and above. This expansion requires the base game, Catan - The Game, to play. As trade flourishes and prosperity spreads across Catan, the island attracts the attention of marauding barbarians, necessitating the formation of a brave army of knights to defend your thriving communities.

The expansion can be combined with Catan - Seafarers and Catan - Traders & Barbarians, offering a rich tapestry of gameplay. As you build majestic cities, dark clouds gather, signalling the approach of wild barbarians. The strength of the barbarian army corresponds to the number of cities on the island, and players must unite to muster enough knight strength to fend off the invaders.

Knights are represented by wooden tokens placed on unoccupied intersections, each featuring an “active” side and an “inactive” side. To activate a knight, players must pay one grain, flipping the token to its active side. Each knight contributes strength points, and if the combined strength of all players' knights is insufficient, a city will be raided and downgraded to a settlement, impacting the player with the lowest knight strength.

In addition to defending Catan, players compete for metropolises, which grant two additional victory points. Establishing a metropolis requires improving your cities through the construction of city buildings like the Library, Market, Abbey, or Trading House, tracked on the Progress Track. Prepare for a more challenging and exciting game, as the first player to reach 13 victory points claims victory.
