Crimean War British Rifle Brigade in Forage Caps Command
Crimean War British Rifle Brigade in Forage Caps Command
When the Crimean War erupted in 1853, the Rifle Brigade deployed two battalions to the campaign, quickly proving their value in some of its most hard-fought engagements. They distinguished themselves at the Battle of the Alma, where one of their number famously led the advance across the river under fire, and later fought with tenacity at Inkerman.
Throughout the prolonged Siege of Sevastopol, the Rifle Brigade continued to earn a formidable reputation for discipline and courage, with several Victoria Crosses awarded to its soldiers during the campaign. Reflecting the harsh realities of service in the Crimea, the regiment gradually adopted the softer forage cap in place of the traditional shako, a practical adaptation to campaigning conditions.
This command pack represents officers and leaders of the Rifle Brigade during this period, wearing forage caps appropriate to the later stages of the war.
Pack contains:
- 4 metal British Rifle Brigade command figures in forage caps
Sculpted by Mike Percy. Studio miniatures painted by Jamie Getliffe. Models are supplied unassembled and unpainted.
