King of the Colosseum Rules

We’ll be using the popular “Play on Tabletop King of the Colosseum” format for army composition and mission selection:

Points Limit:
Incursion sized-game. 600 points maximum.

Detachment:
You may only use 1 detachment. Detachments can be any detachment point level.

Army Must Include:
1x Unit with the Character keyword to be designated as the Warlord.

2x Units with the Infantry Keyword. These can be Units with the Character keyword.

Datasheet Restrictions:
Each unique datasheet, except datasheets with the battleline and/or dedicated transport keywords, can only be included in your army once. Datasheets with the battleline or dedicated transport keywords can be included in your army a maximum of two times. Datasheets with the Epic Hero keyword are not eligible to be included in your army list.

Datasheets with a T (toughness) characteristic of higher than 9 are not eligible to be included in your army list.

Only a single Datasheet where the T (toughness) characteristic is 9 can be included in your army list.

Playing the Game

Games of King of the Colosseum utilize Chapter Approved 2026 Missions. Tactical Secondaries must be used (no Fixed Secondaries).

Follow the standard sequence for playing a Chapter Approved battle.

Mission Twists
Determine a Mission Twist after the Determine Mission Step.

Choosing the Twist:
Detachment Points are utilised to determine which player will choose the Twist for the game.

The player who is utilising the detachment worth the least amount of detachment points will choose a Mission Twist.

If both players are utilising detachments worth the same amount of detachment points then the players will roll off. The player who wins the roll off will determine the Twist.

Mission Twists Available:

Martial Pride: A battleline unit can start an action in a turn in which it made an advance move. A battleline unit can shoot in a turn that it started an action.

Night Fighting: Each unit is not visible to enemy models unless they are within 18” of that unit, and each unit cannot be targeted by indirect fire weapons unless the attacking model is within 18” of that unit.

Nowhere to Hide: Terrain features do not have the Solid rule.

Ruinscape: When a unit makes a normal or advance move, models in that unit have the Mobile keyword until that move ends.

Scrambled Communications: The players exchange primary mission cards

Mirrored World: The players both replace their primary mission card with the same one of the following. If both players agree on one of them, use that primary mission. Otherwise, roll a D6 to determine a primary mission.

  1. Battlefield Dominance
  2. Meatgrinder
  3. Outmaneuver
  4. Gather Intel
  5. Sabotage
  6. Roll again

Terrain

We will provide terrain area footprints and suitable terrain, this will be in a set format throughout the day so there will be no need to set it up before each round. Rather than a Colosseum set of terrain we’ll be using the Combat Patrol layout A with the two central pieces pushed together to make a central objective.

*Painting and Modelling

Whilst it’s not required to have a painted force for this event, by doing so you’ll gain 10 extra victory points in each game! All miniatures in your army must be WYSIWYG (What you see is what you get) and be a clear representation if they are a proxy - if in doubt please get in touch.

Awards

We’ll have awards for the following:

  • 1st, 2nd and 3rd place
  • Best Painted
  • Most Sporting
  • Wooden Spoon
