The Victrix Late Roman Cataphracts set (VXDA015) contains 16 multi-pose 28mm hard plastic miniatures from the Victrix Dark Ages range. These cavalry models represent the heavily armoured shock troops of the Late Roman army, clad in mail, lamellar, and scale armour and mounted on fully armoured warhorses. Both rider and horse are protected from head to foot, making Cataphracts among the most fearsome cavalry of the ancient world.

Introduced by Emperor Trajan in the early 2nd century, Cataphractarii became a powerful element of Roman armies, inspired by eastern heavy cavalry. They advanced at the trot in dense formations, delivering devastating charges with the long Kontos lance before switching to sword or axe in close combat. Ancient accounts describe the Kontos as capable of both piercing armour and even decapitating enemies with a thrust or sweeping strike.

The set includes multiple options for armour, weapons, and horse equipment, allowing hobbyists to create a varied and dynamic regiment. These miniatures are ideal for representing Late Roman Cataphracts, but they can also be used as Byzantine heavy cavalry, Sassanid Cataphracts, or even adapted for Gothic and Eastern armies of the late antiquity period.
