Soviet 203mm Howitzer M1931 B4 (Stalin’s Sledgehammer)
The B-4 Howitzer (Model 1931) was a formidable Soviet 203mm heavy artillery piece used extensively during World War II and known to the Red Army as “Stalin’s Sledgehammer.” Designed in the interwar period, this massive gun combined devastating firepower with the mobility of a tracked chassis, making it one of the most iconic and powerful howitzers of its era.
Capable of firing a 100kg shell at speeds up to 607 m/s and with a maximum range of 18,000 meters, the B-4 was a key weapon in major Soviet offensives, including the Battle of Berlin (1945). The weapon was even captured and repurposed by German forces during Operation Barbarossa, a testament to its effectiveness and engineering.
