The Italeri SBD-3 Dauntless 1:48 scale plastic model kit is a detailed replica of the legendary American carrier-based dive bomber used during the Second World War. Designed for experienced modellers, this historically accurate kit captures the precision and power of the Douglas SBD “Dauntless,” one of the most important aircraft in U.S. Navy history.

The SBD-3 variant entered active service in 1941 and became a key asset in naval aviation, serving both as a dive bomber and reconnaissance aircraft. It played a decisive role during the Battle of Midway in June 1942, where Dauntless squadrons were instrumental in sinking four Japanese aircraft carriers, marking a turning point in the Pacific War. Powered by a Wright R-1820 Cyclone radial engine, the Dauntless reached speeds up to 410 km/h (255 mph) and could carry nearly 2,000 kg (4,400 lbs) of bombs. Armed with two forward-firing .50 calibre machine guns and two rear-facing .30 calibre guns, it earned a reputation for durability and reliability.
