The ICM HP.52 Hampden TB.Mk.I model kit recreates a Royal Air Force torpedo bomber used during the Second World War. This 1:48 scale plastic model kit represents the modified maritime strike version of the Hampden bomber that served with RAF Coastal Command during anti shipping operations over the North Sea and Arctic waters.

The Handley Page HP.52 Hampden B.Mk.I first entered production in 1938 and quickly became one of the aircraft used by the Royal Air Force in the early stages of the war. By late 1941 the aircraft was adapted for use as a torpedo bomber. Although the possibility of carrying torpedoes had been considered during the aircraft’s design stage in the mid 1930s, wartime requirements demanded a practical conversion that avoided major structural redesign.

Engineers successfully fitted a single Mk.XII torpedo beneath the aircraft without extensive modifications. The conversion required adjustments to the ventral gunner’s position, redesign of the lower fuselage section and alterations to the bomb bay area including modified bomb bay doors and a dedicated torpedo mounting system. The aircraft could also retain underwing bomb racks capable of carrying two 227 kg bombs.

A total of 144 aircraft were converted into this maritime strike configuration, designated HP.52 Hampden TB.Mk.I. These aircraft served with several squadrons of RAF Coastal Command including Nos. 144, 408, 415, 489 and 455 Squadrons, conducting patrols and strike missions against enemy shipping.

This detailed model kit accurately represents the torpedo bomber configuration with the modified lower gun position and redesigned fuselage section. The kit includes finely moulded surface detail with realistic rivet patterns across the fuselage, wings and tail. A Mk.XII torpedo and transport trolley are included to enhance display options.

The kit contains 271 plastic parts and provides marking options for four different aircraft used during the war. This makes it an excellent project for aircraft modellers interested in Royal Air Force aviation and World War II maritime strike aircraft.

Models require assembly and painting. Glue and paints are not included.

Recommended for ages 14 and over.
