A veteran of numerous conflicts, Buck rose to become an ODST fireteam leader during the Battle for Earth, earning a reputation for calm leadership under fire and relentless determination.

Captain Veronica Dare, an officer of the Office of Naval Intelligence (ONI), fought alongside ODST forces during the same conflict. Armoured in ODST-style gear and assuming tactical command of Alpha-Nine, Dare operated with her own covert objectives leveraging her authority within ONI to direct UNSC forces in pursuit of classified missions.
