The Hellenistic Onager with Crew from Warlord Games represents a powerful siege engine used during the wars of the Hellenistic kingdoms following the death of Alexander the Great. Designed to hurl heavy projectiles across great distances, the onager was a formidable weapon used in sieges and assaults on fortified positions.

During the reign of Philip II of Macedon and the campaigns of his son Alexander the Great, siege warfare became an increasingly important part of military strategy. This tradition continued among the Successor kingdoms, whose armies often deployed large siege trains. One of the most famous proponents of such warfare was Demetrius the Besieger, particularly during the famous Siege of Rhodes in 305 to 304 BC.

The onager was capable of launching large stones or rocks with tremendous force, making it effective against fortifications and defensive structures. Historical accounts also describe projectiles being coated in flammable substances and set alight before being launched, turning the weapon into a devastating tool of psychological and physical warfare.
