Also known as the Type 91 broad-gauge railroad tractor, the So-Mo has the unusual ability to quickly switch between road and rail operation. It could reach speeds of approximately 25 mph on roads and nearly double that on railway lines, making it a distinctive and flexible vehicle on the battlefield.

Historical Background

Fielded by both the Imperial Japanese Army and the Special Naval Landing Forces (SNLF) during World War II, the six-wheel-drive So-Mo also saw service in the 1937 Japanese invasion of China.

The vehicle did not have integral weapons; however, crews often carried a 7.7mm light machine gun, firing through the observation ports in the turret when required.

In Bolt Action

Despite its light armament, the So-Mo offers a relatively inexpensive armoured car option for a Japanese force. It also has the ability to transport up to six infantrymen, providing valuable mobility across the battlefield especially in scenarios featuring railway lines.
