Historical Background

The Isuzu Type 98 AA Machine Gun Carrier combined a Type 98 20mm automatic cannon with the rear of a Type 94, or later Type 96, six-wheeled truck chassis.

The Type 98 20mm autocannon was the most common light anti-aircraft gun used by the Imperial Japanese Army. It had a range of approximately 5,500 metres and a rate of fire of up to 300 rounds per minute.

These self-propelled anti-aircraft guns were not mass-produced, and those that saw service were deployed within the air defence units of Japanese tank divisions.
