History

Although the Royal Navy was one of the most formidable sea powers in the world, it recognised the need for fast, agile combat vessels capable of striking at enemy warships and disrupting merchant fleets. The Vosper company had been developing such high-speed craft since the early 1930s, with the 73ft Motor Torpedo Boat becoming one of the later and more refined variants. 

Powered by three Packard engines, these vessels could reach speeds of over 40 knots. This variant featured four 18-inch torpedo tubes, an Oerlikon 20mm cannon, and up to four Vickers machine guns, making it a formidable threat in coastal waters where stealth, speed, and manoeuvrability were vital.
