History

By the summer of 1942, the Luftwaffe’s formidable Focke Wulf FW190 ‘Butcher Bird’ had gained air superiority, forcing an urgent response. The result was the Spitfire Mk.IX—a rapid but highly effective upgrade that proved one of the most successful "stop-gap" fighters in military aviation history.
