The A-90 Orlyonok is a Soviet ground-effect vehicle (ekranoplan) developed by the Design Bureau of Rostislav Alexeev, the engineer behind the famous hydrofoil ships Raketa and Meteor. Designed for rapid troop deployment, the Orlyonok could transport forces at speeds up to 500 km/h across distances of 1,500 km, combining the speed of an aircraft with the carrying capacity of a ship.

The unique design features a front-loading fuselage capable of carrying up to 200 fully equipped marines or two armored vehicles (tanks, APCs, or IFVs). Flying just a few meters above the water’s surface, the Orlyonok was unaffected by mines or underwater obstructions and could land directly on beaches. Three of these remarkable machines were built, with the first entering service with the Soviet Naval Aviation in 1977.
